What is a digital ambassador?
A student’s skills.
Your newsroom’s priorities.
NYPA is participating in the Potter Digital Ambassadors program to bring journalism students into the newsrooms of publications across New York.
Ambassadors work alongside staff on a focused digital project, share practical skills, and help your team build confidence with the tools you use to reach your community.
The goal is progress that lasts beyond the visit, with written guidance your staff can use after the week ends.

What’s on your digital to-do list?
Start with a need in your newsroom. These are a few examples of projects an ambassador could help with, depending on your goals and the student’s skills.

Analytics & audience

Website improvements
Make useful updates to your website and help staff manage them.
Video & podcasts
Try a new storytelling format or improve your production workflow.
Social media
Develop practical ways to share your journalism and reach your community.
Donation campaigns
Build a digital donation drive to support your local journalism.
How it works
Bring an idea. Build it together.
- 01 / Apply
Tell us what you need.
Use the application to describe your newsroom and the digital project you’d like help moving forward.
- 02 / Match
Connect with student skills.
The program matches newsroom needs with students’ digital skills. NYPA will share placement details as arrangements are confirmed.
- 03 / Collaborate
Work alongside an ambassador.
Spend January 11–15 working on your project, learning together, and developing guidance to keep the work going.
A good fit: A newsroom with a focused digital need, staff ready to collaborate with a student, and a commitment to continue the work after the visit. Applications help the program assess needs and fit, and submitting an application does not guarantee placement.
