Frequently asked questions
What to know before you apply
These answers cover the current pilot structure. Selected publications will receive the full participation and service agreements before joining.
What is igNYte AI?
igNYte AI is an NYPA-administered pilot that gives up to ten New York publications a supported way to explore AI tools in their newsrooms. The cohort will test practical uses, develop repeatable workflows, and share approved lessons that can help the broader news industry use AI responsibly.
Who is LiquidAmber?
LiquidAmber is an AI technology company built to meet the rigorous standards of journalistic integrity and data security. Co-founder and CEO Eric Johnston brings more than 30 years in journalism and a deep commitment to the role a free press plays in democracy. He is joined by co-founders Benoit Marsot and Tobias Tornqvist, whose technical expertise anchors the platform's engineering and product architecture. Learn more about Liquid Amber.
What will this cost?
The LiquidAmber AI technology is available during the pilot period without a direct technology subscription charge. Additional service requested beyond the supported user count will be provided at a discount.
What if I want more users?
The pilot includes up to 10 users per participating publication. Additional users or capacity may be purchased directly from Liquid Amber at a reduced rate during the pilot.
What will participation require?
Participating publications will complete onboarding and technical setup, designate a project lead, join weekly check-ins and monthly cohort meetings, test agreed workflows, and respond to reasonable surveys and feedback requests. There is no required performance threshold, but applicants should be ready to use the tools and participate throughout the pilot.
What information will we need to share?
NYPA will collect information needed to administer and evaluate the program. Participating publications may provide approved baseline information, workflow feedback, survey responses, and non-sensitive outcome measures. NYPA intends to anonymize or aggregate industry-facing findings where appropriate and will not share confidential-source information, subscriber information, credentials, or unpublished newsroom material as part of general industry reporting.
Is my data or content used to train AI?
No. Liquid Amber does not train its models on customer conversations or archives. Its commercial agreements with Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic disallow those companies from using customer content to train their models. When a user asks a question, Liquid Amber retrieves information relevant to that request and provides it to the model as context only to formulate a response. The models do not have unrestricted access to publisher content at any time.
Will we keep editorial control?
Yes. Each publication retains editorial control. The pilot will encourage human review, accuracy, attribution, source confidentiality, privacy, security, copyright awareness, and the journalistic standards your newsroom already follows.
Could our publication be recognized publicly?
Yes. Selected participants should expect that their participation and approved program learnings may be recognized in project reporting, promotion, and industry education. The participation agreements will explain the authorization and limits for use of publication names, logos, quotations, screenshots, and results.
