Our Members
Americans are experiencing an increasingly urgent need to become closer to
their communities, and as a result, community newspapers are experiencing
unprecedented growth. Today, NYPA is stronger than ever, with more than 350
member newspapers serving their communities across New York state.
As membership increases, so too does NYPA's strength and ability to provide
the quality services that would be too expensive for most papers to provide
for themselves.
Our members' newspapers reach more than 8 million households weekly.
Membership Criteria
NYPA offers several membership options. In each case, membership is by
paper (not company), and is voted on by the board of directors.
Applications for membership are reviewed by the board four times annually in
April, June, September and November.
Regular Full Membership is limited to newspapers regularly published once a
week in New York state, and mailed as Periodicals class postal matter. Full
membership entitles the member to one vote. A chain or group of newspapers
published from one plant or under one ownership is entitled to one vote. Click

Regular Associate Membership is limited to free distribution newspapers
ordinarily published once a week and no less than once a month, that are
printed in an accepted newspaper format, contain at least 25% locally
generated news/editorial content, and have a known office open to the public
where business is conducted. Associate members are non-voting members. Click

Affiliate Membership is granted to authorized representatives of firms
having business dealings with members of the association. Affiliate members
