Background
The New York Press Association Foundation takes an active role in promoting
community journalism and developing talent in the industry, by awarding paid
internships to college students, by providing fellowship grants to employees
of member newspapers, and by providing funding to the Center for Community
Journalism.
Howard Palmer Internships
The Howard Palmer Internships fund paid summer intern experiences for college
journalism students. Students must apply and be accepted into the eight-week program. Likewise, NYPA member newspapers interested in hosting an
intern must submit a proposed job description and must identify a staff
mentor who will train and evaluate the intern.
Applications are now available for the 2008 Howard
Palmer Internships, sponsored by the NYPA Foundation. Students selected for the
program will be matched with a local, community newspaper and receive a net
stipend of $2,600 for the eight-week internship.Deadline for
application submission is January 15, 2008 and interns selected for the program
will be notified by the end of February 2008.
