Spring Convention and Trade Show
Every spring, member publishers and their staffs participate in the two-day
spring convention and trade show. Seminar speakers, recognized as leaders
in their fields, conduct sessions on editorial, advertising, circulation,
design, and other subjects important to weekly newspapers.
A committee works year-round to ensure that the convention format and agenda
are tailored to member needs. Round table discussion groups involving
editors, publishers, and staff provide invaluable networking opportunities.
Other convention highlights include the announcement of winners of the
annual Better Newspaper Contest and keynote addresses by prominent speakers
on state and national issues.
Attendees are also treated to a trade show where the latest equipment and
services for newspapers are on display.
Fall Convention
Member publishers from across the state also come together in September at
the annual fall convention to discuss newspaper management issues.
Topics vary widely from year to year and have covered issues such as
family-owned businesses, economic development, financial management,
personnel management and more.
The annual membership meeting and the election of NYPA officers also take
place at the fall convention.
The fall convention is frequently held at a resort location, and the agenda
includes plenty of time for group and social activities, as well as
relaxation. In recent years, the fall convention has been held at The
Otesaga in Cooperstown, Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz, and The Mirror
Lake Inn in Lake Placid.
